thought for the day

Tuesdays...are they the unwanted stepchild of the week?

Mondays we hate cause they are Mondays, Wednesday is hump day, Thursday is closer to the weekend, and we love Fridays. What up with Tuesday?

Congratulations to our President of the United States for winning the Nobel PEACE prize!

Here is hoping that American can now start standing for the Land of PEACE instead of war.

My Afternoon

1 bathroom, plumber coming to fix toilet for 3rd time, finding out toilet tank has a crack, price for the toilet provided by plumber insane, cheaper for me to go to Home Depot and pick out toilet and have them put it in, off with sick child to Home Depot and buy a new toilet, overwhelmed by choices, pick one with help of great sales guy who saw I was overwhelmed. Plumber will be back between 5-7 to install new toilet. Thank goodness I had hip surgery and we had to buy this..so we have a back up pot to piss in..

things

I think are mean:

1. Seeing someone eat an ice cream cone that you can't have.
2. Someone leaving only 1 chocolate chip cookie in the cookie jar.
3. Favorite writers who post snippets of a book only to tell you that it won't be out until NEXT YEAR.
4. Getting a compliment when you feel your absolute worse..I mean does that mean when I think I look great I really look like crap?
5. Thinking you have lost weight only to step on the scale and realize the number has gone UP

I think are wonderful:

1. Kisses and hugs from my daughter and husband.
2. The fact that my husband enjoys cooking us dinner.
3. Fresh baked chocolate chip cookies in which I have to "test" a cookie from each batch coming out of the oven to make sure they are done.
4. The library that I frequent having new "smut" books that I like to read on the shelf.
5. Air conditioning in my house..especially when the temp outside is 69 and the dew point is 68.
6. The fall leaves starting to show.
7. My new hip is not painful (muscles a bit sore but the hip works great).
8. The fact that we have health insurance to allow me to get a new hip at 40.
9. Instant messenger..so I can "chat" with my sister on a regular basis.
10. and most of all....CHOCOLATE... (and the fact that I am not a diabetic yet).

What are some of your mean/wonderful things?

Guiding Light

After 72 years, my favorite show of all time has ended. It is almost like losing old friends.

Won't be able to crush on: Frank Dicopoulos , Grant Aleksander , Jordan Clarke , Kurt McKinney , Michael O'Learly , Ron Raines, Robert Bogue, and especially Robert Newman .

Will miss seeing: Beth Chamberlin , Elizabeth Keifer , Marj Dusay, and especially Tina Sloan and Kim Zimmer.

Goodbye friends of Springfield. Your light has dimmed but I hope to see you all working one something new real soon.

Okay..I am a sucker but have been a fan for over 25 years.

outside

I am going to leave my house for the first time since last Wednesday. I mean I have not stepped outside AT ALL in a week..not even a toe outside. Talk about cabin fever. I am used to at least leaving to take Princess to school or pick her up but I can't drive so I have not ventured outside at all..not even to get the mail.

I so need some sunshine on my face.

ugh

One week with my new hip and I am already SICK and TIRED of using a walker..UGH.

Thursday, September 3, 2009

I have the best husband in the world. He puts up with me and my stubborness. So I am home from the hospital. Have a new right hip, walker, and a bedside commode. Always was griping that I wanted a second toilet..but not sure if this is exactly what I wanted..LOL

Survived the surgery very well. Pain is really not that bad..and if it is..there is always Percocet. Guess the pain before the surgery was preparing me for after surgery.

Now I just want to nap all the time. Power of positive thinking is still going. My body will heal quickly and then I will have the other hip done.

A month

So I have been slacking off in blogging..it has been a crazy time. In a nutshell...hip replacement surgery scheduled for 8/31/09, lots o freak moments, being a mom, back to school shopping, banking blood for surgery, working, dr appts, working, school started, training sister and her wife to cover for me while in hospital, freaking out about being in hospital for 2-3 days, working, being a mom and realizing that my baby and hubby will be on their own for 2-3 days, freaking out about missing family while in hosp, etc...

So that about sums it up... Other than the whole anesthesia and risks of a major surgery...uh oh I feel another panic attack...

GREATEST INVENTION EVER!!

Okay...so we are redoing the Princess' room and the continuing saga of stuffed animals has happened again. If you have a child you understand what I am saying..especially a girl child. We donate usually a trash bag size of stuffed animals every year.
Well..she has gotten it down to her favorites and I was looking for a storage solution and I FOUND IT!!...
Now all of these

and all of these
and these

NOW LIVE IN THIS...the greatest invention EVER!.

It is called A Stuffed Animal Storage bag and SEAT. It is made by Boon and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT (and so does Princess). She wanted a beanbag chair but I didn't want the mess from the "beans". This does double duty.
Company website: Boon, Inc
I did a search & bought here: Just Kids
The price is a bit high..but let me tell you..it is worth every hard earned penny.
This one is pretty huge and works perfect for us.
(They also have a size smaller and a size bigger.)
Why the heck didn't I think of this???

Pretty NY pics

Okay..so here are a few pics from um...well..two weeks ago when Princess and I flew up to Albany to celebrate my Grandmother's 80th Birthday. We had a nice time, even if we were out in the middle of nowhere. The running joke was that the closest store was the Wal-Marts which was 1.5 hours away.

Believe it or not..these were taken with my little ol' Nokia cell phone and have not been photoshopped..I don't own a decent camera, let alone photoshop software..LOL

catch-up

Okay..so it has been a few weeks since I posted..man life gets busy sometimes.

Went to NY for my Gramma’s 80th birthday. It was a huge surprise for her that everyone came..and an even bigger surprise was the party on Sunday. There were about 40 people who showed up. I saw cousins that I had not seen since I was in my early teens. It is so strange to see us all with families now. I know that Gramma enjoyed herself. She just kept saying “I can’t believe no one let it slip”. We kept saying.. “Well if you would get the hearing aid that you need, you would have heard all about it.” LOL. She is the epitome of a family matriarch. We love her so much and hope that the Alzheimer’s will hold off and she will remember us all.

School ended and we are on to a few summer day camp activities before Princess gets too big for them. I think this might be the last year for them..lord..what shall I do next year???? What do you do with kids when you are working during the summer? Maybe next year she will be ready for a week of sleep-away camp..here is hoping. I have great memories of going away to camp during the summer.

My dear hubby planted our garden and I am eagerly awaiting home grown tomatoes, cukes, peppers, and wonderful herbs. In the meantime, we will settle for our local farmer’s market. That brings me to my website of the week...which is http://www.localharvest.org/

You might need to double check the site, because I know some of the markets have moved. You can always Google farmers markets in your area or check your local paper..sometimes they have listings. I know where I live, many farmer’s markets start at the end of June and beginning of July.

Check it out and support your local farmers

A peek inside my life…

Setting: Dinner table. Princess dropped a piece of food on the floor.

Mom: You need to pick that up. The dog won’t eat that and it will just get stepped on.

Princess: Okay. (as she picks it up)..EWWWW nasty...it has hair on it.

Mom: Well we do have a dog and a cat that have hair and they do shed.

Princess: Don’t forget about the fish..we have him too.

Dad: Otto doesn’t have hair..besides…When did you ever know a fish to have hair?

Princess: Well….there is such a thing...What about? What about?..….a CAT FISH…so there!

Mom and Dad: Laughing until milk comes out their noses…

website of the week

I think that I am going to start doing a "website of the week" post. I come across many great sites when wandering the web.

So..this week is going to be Pastor Ryan

I can't remember how long I have been reading his site or how I found it but I have subscribed to it in my reader so I check it daily. AND...BONUS...he is giving away a digital kitchen scale today...yippee Love blogs that give away stuff.

I might have to start that next week..going to look around my house and see what I can give away..dog..cat..9-year-old girl..LOL

Run Pee

Another great website find..(it's a new site so improvements will happen daily I am sure).

If you ever wonder when is a good time to go potty during a movie..check out this site before you go see the latest release..LOL

When should I run and go pee?

2 questions

1. Why on earth would anyone choose to be a podiatrist?

2. Why on earth are podiatrists 5x as wordy as an orthopaedic surgeon when they dictate operative notes?

Mother's Day reflections

Okay..so I didn't get a Mother's Day per say on Sunday and I'll admit I was a bit disappointed at first but after some reflections, I realized that by being blessed with my daughter, every day is Mother's day for me. After being told when you are younger that having children was going to be impossible, the fact that she is even here is more than I could ever dream of. Yes there are good days and bad days, but I would never trade them for anything.

Besides if I wasn't a Mom..I wouldn't get to hear things like this come from my precious child:

I wish wars and cancer were extinct.
Look there is a store named “For Lease”
Is there a sausage factory that grows sausages
Ahh..I didn’t want to be hummered
If you catch corn on fire, will it pop popcorn?
I’m just going to annoy it..(always mixing up annoy and ignore)
Teenage boy boobies are gross
How do you spell pecker? I have the wood but I need the pecker.
Do crabs have tongues?
I can’t help it..I am wide asleep.
I don’t want a newbie..I want an oldbie.
You spell example like this right? “EGGZAMPULE”
I don’t think fish have butt cracks..I’m just sayin..
Look, he swallowed a hiccup.

Nope...I would never trade being a Mom to this child for anything in this world. Every day I wake up and am able to hold her is Mother's Day for me.

Princess is 9..wow..hard to believe.
I splurged and had this cake made for her party.
Girls afternoon at the bowling alley.
Do you know how hard it is to find a bowling theme cake for girls???.luckily our bakery is FAB-U-LOUS..they did this from a sketch and the stars at the top were so unexpected!

New fav bookmark

Okay...so times are tough..but I found this website that allows you to print free cards, calendars, stationary, games, frames, scrap booking, business cards, etc. Great for birthdays, Mother's day, any holiday.

Granted..you pay for printer ink...but it saves gas that would be used on a trip to the store. PLUS..you can customize them.

work

Okay..so I work from home as a medical transcriptionist...and last night my (almost 9-year-old) daughter informed me that I need to get a new keyboard. I mean tell me..what is wrong with this office set up?

From top of picture down....

1. Cat bed taking up available desk space. Needed to put the bed there so she would lay down or else she just sits there staring at me. At least this way I can see my monitor.

2. Missing keys: So I type A LOT..I mean A LOT and sometimes certain keys get in my way and tick me off..so I popped them off the keyboard. Missing are: Fn, Insert, Ctrl and Alt on the right side. I still have them..just in my desk drawer..LOL.

3. I had to put some gaffer's tape on the space bar cause my thumb kept slipping off the key because I have worn out the texture. (gaffer's tape is used in theatre..better than duct tape).

4. Also note..not sure if you can see it in the picture but this keyboard no longer has the letters N, M, L visible on the keys. Also on the way out are E, R, and D.

I guess I should have said at the beginning, the keyboard is supposed to be split like that..LOL. It is an ergonomic one that cost me a pretty penny. By the way..this is my 4 keyboard in the last 3 years. I wore the others out..LOL.

So that is your tour of my keyboard today. If you want a good ergo keyboard....here is where I buy mine.

Why can't I have FUN, STYLISH fashion accessories???

This is my latest accessory for the next 48 hours. It is a Holter monitor. Records your heart rate around the clock.

I can't show you where on my body the lead wires are attached...(one on each side and three in my cleavage)... LOL... let me just say, I am looking forward to getting rid of this accessory but I am NOT looking forward to removing the 5 stuck to my body sensors on Thursday morning.

First flower of Spring

Last year we bought a billion bulbs (okay..maybe like 100-200) with the intention that Princess and I would plant them... well...that didn't happen but instead my wonderful darling hubby planted EVERY SINGLE ONE of them. I am so lucky to have him and because of all his hard work last fall..we get to see these!

Now..if we could just get rid of all those darn onions growing around them..ugh....

Friday, March 6, 2009

You thought your job was tough..

Imagine this in your inbox when you arrive at the office.....
------------------------------------------------------------
"Friend of Her Wandering Mind",

Can you tell me why Dr. X's schedule has not been faxed to the home the last few days? I need the schedule so I can plan my surgical schedule. Since most of us do need to work and are held accountable by our bosses.

Please let me know and please continue to fax it. I don't need a detail schedule with patients name but maybe one that tells me the time he starts cases or clinics as well as on call.

If Dr. X has asked you not to send it, please let me know so I can speak with him. You do not need to speak with him on my behalf since am very capable of handling my husband. Please remember that for future reference.

Dr. X's WIFE OF ALL PEOPLE!!

------------------------------------------------------------

Note to self..never work for someone whose wife is this kind of beotch......

My sister...the politician

Well..she is not really a politician but has worked with many of them. She came up with a better way of wording things....

"This letter is hereby intended to be the official termination of the service agreement between (my previous client) and (my company).

This decision is based upon several recent events, including what (me) believes to be performance inhibiting and hypercritical corrections made by (crazy person). Also, our company is now deeply immersed in an influx of assignments from our long-standing clients and we feel that, in order to supply maximum customer service to them, we must downsize the number of newly acquired or smaller accounts. We believe this dissolution will allow us to continue offering the high-quality (work) to our long-term customers and allow you to find a company that will better fit your needs at this time."

Isn't she just the best! If you ever need a "politically correct / nice with a slam" letter written just contact her..

She will be know as "Sista of Her Wandering Mind"....sounds like an Indian name..whatcha think sista?..LOL THANK YOU!!

learned my lesson

Made the mistake of taking on something that I should not have. Sometimes I need to learn to say…. “Sorry, but I can’t help you” or “No thank you”.

See, I have two “jobs” or people I work for and one day, someone else called. I had done some work for them some years ago. They needed some help and would I be willing to do it. “Sure” I said..sounds easy enough….BOY WAS I WRONG!!

I have learned my lesson…if heart attacks are anything like the anxiety attacks I have been having, I hope I die instead. This is not the way to live. It has been 3 weeks and I have had a constant headache and chest pain since I started with this anal retentive woman.

So...now...I am now trying to compose a nice letter, when all I really want to say is…here I’ll use the British translator..’cause it sounds so much nicer..LOL

"ye god damn gormless effing bitch, if ye really think that these glaikit docs read these damn things then ye are sorely mistaken. I hope that ye are stuck working 90 hours a week for these buggers since ye are so effing nit picky. ye can take y'r effing job and shove it up y'r jacksie."

2. Started a 3rd job..sucks that it now takes 3 jobs for me to make the income I made with 1 job in 2003. Shouldn't be griping..there are those who have none. Sorry..

3. Had to get new computer...curse you Bill Gates and your Vista..had to buy ALL new software to go with new computer, MS Word 2007 (HATE IT!!..really..really..frickin.. HATE IT), WPX4 (LOVE WordPerfect and all COREL products), and a new printer/fax so I upgraded and got the office a printer/fax/copier/scanner.

4. Now I have a 19" flat screen monitor which leaves me a bit more desk space....problem with that...see below..she thinks the space is for her..

Trace Adkins "You're Gonna Miss This".

Just call me Dr.

Grossed my daughter and hubby out today. I took out my stitches from the knee scope that I had on Monday. Guess I have worked in the medical field for too long. LOL.

See after I took my scalding hot shower this morning (actually at noon), I got out, dried my fatness, and noticed that the incisions were completely healed but the stitches were starting to get embedded into the skin. So I took a bottle of alcohol and cleaned off some surgical scissors (thanks to Gramma who used to work at Smith & Nephew), cleaned off some tweezers and snip, pull, all three stitches were out and the skin was happy. Slap some antibiotic cream and two Band-Aids and tada..all done. Maybe I should charge myself the 50.00 copay and buy something nice..LOL.

100th blog

Okay..100 random thoughts to celebrate my 100th blog here.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Astrology sign is Cancer. I am the epitome of a Cancer female. I don’t know my biological mother. My father IS my biological father. I like chocolate. I have one daughter. I wanted more children . I am very glad that I only have one child. I like dogs. I like cats more than dogs. I like to swim. I wish I could swim better. I need to lose 35 pounds. I met my husband in a theatre in Michigan 17 years ago. He was unhappily married at the time. I never kissed a married man before him. We had a long distance relationship for many years. My first real job was in theatre. I got paid $50.00 a week plus room and board. First real "star" I met was Harry Belafonte. He killed a bug while wearing his bathrobe. He was a gentleman. I no longer work in theatre. I miss my theatre friends. Most days I enjoy my current job. I wish I could eat more chocolate. I wish I didn’t have to work. I am very much pro choice. I was once a Republican. I never wish to be a Republican again. I like to sleep. I read "smut" books A LOT. I can read a "smut" book in 2 hours. I wish I could write a "smut" book. Aunt Jean used to by me "smut" books. I miss my Aunt Jean. Breast cancer must be cured. All cancer must be cured. I had arthroscopic surgery on my knee Monday. My knee feels like a marshmallow. I am scared to have hip replacement. I hate rap music. I dislike jazz. I do like country. I want to visit Alaska. I can lose my temper easily. I didn’t learn how to drive until I was 20. I love that my husband cooks for me. Wish I could run. I have such bad arthritis some days I can’t walk. Hate to blow my nose. Hardly ever use the bathroom with the door closed. I have lots of gay friends. My sister is a lesbian. My father does not know about my sister. My "step-mother" is 10 years older than me. I hate MS Word. I prefer WordPerfect. I attended Mars Hill College. I had a breakdown in college. I left college for a job in theatre. I worked at NSMT for two years. I liked working there. I hated my second boss there and quit. I still remember her name. One of my good friends came from working there. Never had anyone over for dinner other than family. I want to get new carpet this year. I wish we had a second toilet in our house. My favorite movie is Singin in the Rain. I also liked Xanadu. I am a teen of the 80s. I lived alone and disliked it. I met a guy on the internet. I was engaged to him. I found out he had been in prison. He married someone else. I am glad I did not marry him. I knew I would marry my husband. He is my soul mate. I wish all people could marry who they loved. I will be 40 this year. I feel like I am 80. I don’t think I will live to be 80. I used to smoke. I enjoyed smoking. I used to drink. I didn’t real care about drinking. I did change my online password once while drunk. I can be spiritual. I don’t believe in church. I can’t sing. I made up a song for my daughter when she was a baby. I sing that song for her every night before she sleeps. She can’t sleep unless I sing it for her. My husband is 17 years older than me. I don’t sleep well if he is not home. My husband and daughter are my life. I still have many secrets. I can’t believe I wrote 100 things.

Monday funny

Scene: Monday morning, dining room, around 9:00 am (due to a school delay).

Me: feeding our betta fish, bleary eyed due to only 3 hours of sleep.

Princess: eating her breakfast of cottage cheese w/ pepper on it (BTW..does anyone eat it plain like me??)

Princess: "Mom what are you doing?"

Me: "Watching the fish eat."

Princess: She comes over to watch..a few seconds later....she says.. "I don't think fish have buttcracks."

Me: Laughing.."What??"

Princess: "Well they don't. Fish don't have buttcracks. I'm just sayin."

Where does this child come up with these?

old friends

Sometimes there are people in our lives who you remember no matter where the road has taken them. I have a few friends like that. You keep them in your thoughts and prayers no matter what. You may have only exchanged occasional cards as the years have gone by, but they still hold a part of you. Sometimes you think of them daily and hope that someday you can reconnect.

I have one particular friend like that. I worked with him over 20 years ago..GASP..I'm getting old. We worked together at Christmas and it was something that has been forever imprinted on me. Every Christmas that I have celebrated since I have thought of him.."The Ghost of Christmas Present" and the others that I hold in my heart from that time. I give a silent toast and wish them all health and happiness.

Then suddenly one day..you find that this long lost friends will be in your area..even working the same place as your dear husband. You must send a note to reconnect and hope that he too remembers with fond memories.

Here is to old friends. May they forever warm your heart and give you a smile on a cold winter day. May we all have the chance to reconnect. Friends are happiness, support, love, and life!

My sisters

I sat on that hospital floor waiting..wondering..hoping and then...out came the nurses...
She is my sister
I held her when she was a baby, she laughed, she cried, she peed.
She is my sister.
Along came another..who... we were told all along... was a boy..LOL...surprise!
They are my sisters.
I watched them every summer instead of hanging with friends.
They are my sisters.
I cried when I left for college..far away..they were young.
They are my sisters.
I grew up and moved even farther away..chasing my dreams. I occasionally lost touch but..
They are my sisters.
Hardships were endured..friends change..parents change but through it all
They are my sisters.
We are older..maybe wiser ?..LOL....we grew up but are still kids..
They are my sisters.
I live far away but we talk often..I think of them weekly, daily, sometimes hourly because..
They are my sisters.
One shares her secrets..we still love her..
She is our Lesbian sister.
I am proud of both of them.
I am proud to be their sister..
Through it all..love endures no matter the time or distance.
They are and will always be MY SISTERS.
